Fall 12 | Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana's newest collection is inspired once again by their native land of Italy, this time taking on their country's religious heritage. Some pieces were inspired by the hoods and cloaks of monks, but we were drawn to these bright woven florals, which conjure the Catholic grandma--needlepointing cushions and laying out the festive tablecloth on Sunday. Some of these are also reminiscent of religious tapestries. Combine all that with the ultra-feminine, flattering silhouettes that the Dolce & Gabbana is known for, and you get a beautiful and eye-catching collection on every level.

Magic Mountains

Somehow the artist, Marco Reichert, has managed to capture the fluidity of liquid or fabric in his newest collection of paintings titled, Magic Mountain. Although abstract in nature, it's easy to interpret these as surreal landscapes of a futuristic world.

Runway Roundup | Florals on Dark Grounds

 Osman, McQ, Osman
Steven Alan, Manish Arora, Valentino

Osman, Lela Rose, Kenzo
Florals on dark backgrounds were a big trend on the Fall 12 runways, and the look took on lots of variety. From the glamourous opulence at Osman, to the sweet folkloric ditsy at Valentino.  McQ and Manish Aurora both had some beautiful cloth flowers appliqued on top of lace in the case of McQ, and what appears to be velvet at Manish Arora. Overall, a great Wintery update to the vintage floral look.

Fall 12 | Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

A relatively tame collection by fashion bad-boy Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, his Fall 12 line takes inspiration from the magical folklore of Iceland. Colors are bright primaries with heavy black outlines. Combined with the classic feminine silhouettes, it's an interesting collection that rides a fine line between cheeky and sophisticated.

AW12 | Holly Fulton

Holly Fulton AW12
Electric art deco inspired prints light up the runway over at Holly Fulton. With Peter Max and the Edinburgh Botanic Garden as references, Fulton's stylized prints are dizzying with duplicated shapes creating a linear effect and glowing plants that seem to throb in the vibrant color palette.
